Some movies do well at the box office right away but eventually fade away. However, there are films that, despite not being box office hits when they are initially released, become cult classics and true masterpieces over time. “Andaz Apna Apna,” a 1994 comedy directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, is an example of this genre. There was some time before the film became a hit, as was the case with “Citizen Kane,” “It’s a Wonderful Life,” and “The Shawshank Redemption.” In the long run, however, the film has become a fan favourite. Comedic gags abound in this film, with elements of The Three Stooges, The Marx Brothers, and Laurel and Hardy all making appearances. From the first scene to the last, there are so many amazing moments that you might think you’re watching a long circus show that only lets you leave when you’re grinning maniacally. Due to this and other aspects, the film has gained a cult following among Indian filmgoers.

Even if there isn’t a story, Amar and Prem (a pair of scoundrels) follow their exploits as they try to make a name for themselves despite their difficult circumstances. When Juhi Chawla’s car breaks down on her way to a film shoot, Amar (Aamir Khan) has a fantasy of rescuing her. He spends his days fooling around and daydreaming about doing just that. Until his father wakes him up and snaps him back to reality, everything appears to be going swimmingly for him in this fantasy world. However, Amar turns out to be a local barber’s son, and he’s fed up with his lazy, good-for-nothing son. As a result of his father’s numerous failures, Amar takes pride in adding another medal to his collection by selling his father’s barbershop and setting out on an impossible quest to marry a wealthy heiress with the proceeds.

With the exception of his low I.Q, Prem (Salman Khan) is an exact replica of Amar, which irritates his own father. A famous movie star is Prem’s first goal in life, which horrifies his father but provides a perfect opportunity for a con artist, Johnny, to rob Prem of as much money as possible. However, after talking him out of selling the family business, Johnny eventually gets him to agree to go after the same wealthy heiress that Amar is interested in. On the way to their destination, the two heroes happen to meet up on a bus and quickly become friends. That is, until they come to terms with the fact that they are both pursuing the same goal: victory. In the wake of that, they’re constantly trying to outdo one another in bizarre attempts to get the girl’s attention.

These guys have set their sights on the gloomy but determined Raveena Gopal Bajaj (played by the talented but dejected Raveena Tandon). It’s Karishma (played by Karishma Kapoor, of course) who is the real heiress to the Bajaj fortune, and she is also her secretary in the movie. Since the real Raveena wants to be loved for who she is and not for how much money she has, they changed their names. Brilliant plot twist transforms actresses’ real names into those of the characters they play.

Even though the film’s protagonists are completely unaware of the plot twist, the antagonists are also in the dark. When Ram Gopal Bajaj (Ramesh Rawal), the rich tycoon who holds the keys to the diamond treasure so desperately wants to kill Teja (Paresh Rawal), he turns out to be his identical twin. Teja comes up with a scheme of his own to kidnap and replace his brother. Crime Master Gogo is a bizarre villain who has his own vendetta against Teja. In the end, Teja appeared to have conned the crook out of his money. This enrages ‘Mogambo ka bhatija,’ who intends to get even by stealing the diamonds that Teja is looking for.

As a result, Amar and Prem devise a plan to kidnap their future father-in law without even realising it. It is their hope that by rescuing him, he will change his mind about them after their first encounter. However, before their brilliant plan can come to fruition, Teja kidnaps and swaps places with his brother. We see how far our heroes have sunk when they learn the truth about the kidnapping and the identity of Ram Gopal Bajaj. As the situation is revealed, a series of comic routines are performed, causing the audience to laugh uncontrollably.

All of the actors, both lead and supporting, do an outstanding job, and they all deserve praise for it. There are scenes where the actors may appear to overact and ham it up; however, this only serves to increase the number of chuckles generated by the film. The screenplay and dialogue were written by Rajkumar Santoshi and Dilip Shukla. It’s a testament to the film’s enchantment that a concept and storyline this bizarre could be successfully portrayed on screen. When ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ first came out, it wasn’t a big hit commercially. Filmfare awarded the film with a best picture nomination, but it did poorly at the box office. However, the film’s popularity soared thanks to reruns on television and video, and it’s now considered a comedy classic.

No one was a friend on the Andaz Apna Apna set

One of Bollywood’s most enduring relationships was formed between two actors who had previously worked together but had a falling out. Would you believe us if we told you that? It appears that Raveena Tandon concurs with this assessment. Aamir Khan and Salman Khan, who starred as Amar and Prem in the cult classic Andaz Apna Apna, had a tense relationship during filming.

Because of their incredible on-screen friendship, it may be hard for all of the fans to believe, but it is true. Tandon, who co-starred in the cult classic comedy, recalls what it was like to work on the set in 1994.

According to Raveena, who imitated Raveena Bajaj while playing Karisma in Santoshi’s directorial debut, the atmosphere on set was tight. That being said, filming with the actors was a blast for her.

She and her co-star Karisma Kapoor, as well as Aamir and Salman, were not on speaking terms. But wait, there’s more! Rajkumar Santoshi also didn’t hear from Salman.

“While shooting, we didn’t say a word to each other, which added to the fun. In any case, it demonstrates our abilities as performers “Raveena had something to say about it.

The veteran Bollywood actress also revealed how Aamir and Salman tried to mend fences with Karisma and her during the filming of the climax. The director, Rajkumar, was one of their comrades.

During the Andaz Apna Apna movie’s climax, Raveena stated, “The lads made an effort to bring Karisma and myself together. At one point in the finale, Karishma and I are both chained to a pillar. Rajji said, ‘We won’t untie you until you talk to each other.’ Everything was very amusing. We used to giggle hysterically while filming scenes because the dialogue was so funny.”

Box office results for Andaz Apa Apna

Actor Aamir Khan, who stars in the film, predicts it will be a financial failure! The actor expressed his admiration for the film in an interview with a daily published in 2014, admitting that he was disappointed in its box office performance. According to him, the general public was unaware of the film’s release date, which explains why this happened. The distributors were anxious about whether or not the prints would be delivered on time. Andaz Apna Apna’s promoters feared that if they put up posters for the movie and it didn’t open on time, “the public would kill them.” It was only on Tuesday that the film went on general release, following the completion of print delivery on Monday. “The picture was barely promoted for three days,” the critics concluded. Aamir sneers, “It was a complete and utter disaster.” It was a complete and utter mess.

Trade expert Taran Adarsh believes that Andaz Apna Apna was a compromise rather than a success. He says it was successful in a small number of towns. Over time, it became a cult classic, and many people enjoy it even now. It was at the Sun-N-Sand Hotel that I went to their mahurat celebration, which I remember well. He goes on to say that both Salman and Aamir were “riding high” at the time of their meeting. Yes, they haven’t gone anywhere. Karisma Kapoor and Raveena Tandon were recent additions. Ghayal and Damini were two of Rajkumar Santoshi’s many successes. The stakes are bound to rise as a result of this. Consequently, many people expected this pairing to result in yet another big-budget action movie. However, that was not the case with Andaz Apna Apna. ” How much did the delay hurt the film’s chances? According to him, “I don’t really feel that affected the film.” It was also a short trip. Actors are now restricted to working on a single film at a time in the modern era. Everyone back then was involved in a large number of films. There was no major concern about the delay because of this.” If Aamir Khan and Salman Khan had teamed up now in a film, “it would have been pandemonium in the movies!” says Taran Adarsh when praising Rajkumar Santoshi’s Andaz Apna Apna.
